2nd Annual Safety Summit at the Hammer Training Center

The National Utility Contractors Association (NUCA) has declared June as Trench Safety Month, aligning with June's designation as National Safety Month. To prioritize safety, NUCA of Eastern Washington North Idaho organized its 2nd Annual Eastern Washington Safety Summit at the HAMMER Training Facility in Richland, WA on June 20, 2024.

At this year's Safety Summit, there was significant growth in attendance and ongoing safety education, and NUCA EWNI is pleased to have provided this vital safety training to our neighboring contractors in the Tri-Cities area. We were delighted to have Mark Wagar from L&I back as a presenter, sharing his valuable expertise in trench safety and delivering an excellent presentation as always.

Along with Mark, we had the privilege of having Kemp Garcia, a Damage Prevention Consultant, talk about safe digging best practices and compliance with the Call Before You Dig law. Mark Gunderson from Badger Infrastructure Solutions provided insights on non-invasive excavation techniques, while Tyler Severy from DP Nicoli and Troy Cannoy from Trenchman Trench Safety discussed Trench Safety Stand Down and trench safety regulations with our attendees.

NUCA utilizes this event to involve individuals in the industry beyond the Spokane/CDA region and fulfill an important requirement for that area...one advantage of being a NUCA member is that such training opportunities can be accessible to smaller companies that lack the resources to offer training on this level.

As always, we would like to express our gratitude to our wonderful event sponsors Badger Infrastructure Solutions, DP Nicoli, United Rentals Trench Safety, and Trenchman Trench Safety. Your support is crucial in ensuring the success of this outstanding event for our surrounding regions.

We were thrilled to deliver this training and delighted with the positive reception from attendees. If you have a specific training requirement that is not currently available through NUCA EWNI, we urge you to get in touch with Sheri Nowlan, NUCA Executive Director, at sheri@nuca.com / 509.904.0652 to explore options for arranging training.
